YOU LIKELY DO NOT HAVE KNOWLEDGE & CONVERSATION WITH THE HGA YET — AND THIS IS WHY IT’S FINE
As I expected, discussing the theme of the Holy Guardian Angel got people a teensy teeny bit upset.
I understand it. There is so much emphasis put on this experience, and it remains one so intimate and so personal, that no one ever wants to hear “You got it all wrong, mate”.
In the case of the Damon Brand book, it’s also a matter of folks resisting the idea that their first book of magick was misleading. To even begin to trust the magical experience is a great leap of faith already — at least at the beginning, before it should turn to gnosis — and humanity tends to become rather tribalistic when dealing with matters of faith.
But all I am saying here is that there are no shortcuts to that experience, at least not while applying the tools of magick. And, I argue, there aren’t at all. Christ still had to spend 40 days in the desert, tempted by the Devil. The alchemists had to tend the athanor for 40 days, 40 weeks, or 40 years — depending on the source. The list goes on.
I do remain highly skeptical of any new technology that will offer shortcuts, also because I witnessed various folks offering different shortcuts over the years (speaking of early 2000s in Italy) and they never gave full, sustained results. A fleeting glimpse maybe, often followed by retraumatization not dissimilar to what you see happening in new age circles of holotropic breathing, to name just one example.
And I will continue to insist that if you just starting your first steps in magick, you shouldn’t worry about the experience of the Adept — that is, the Knowledge and Conversation with the Holy Guardian Angel.
You are a novice, neophyte, or newbie, and there’s nothing wrong it. You should rather rejoice this time when things still feel “new” and you can explore the world with these new tools step by step. Set aside the need to prove yourself, mostly to yourself, that you already “done it”, and are already “accomplished”.
This isn’t a race. There is nothing to “win” at the end.
This is about understanding.
And this is particularly true for those who already experience groundbreaking connections with the Other. If you truly did, and I have no reason to think otherwise, you don’t have anything to prove to others either.
